Neighborhood Leader Standards

We believe that Neighborhood Leaders are the driving force behind every great Colony in Cybertown. As a Neighborhood Leader, you will set the example for your entire Staff to follow. While we believe you should have complete control over your own Neighborhood, we also strongly encourage and expect you to work constructively and cooperatively as a team with other NL’s, CD’s and the CL to ensure the Colony continues to operate at its maximum capability. The Neighborhood Leader title is an honorable one and brings with it a vast amount of responsibility. Therefore, these guidelines are set forth to insure everyone has the same set of standard operating procedures to guide them.

Neighborhood Leaders should:

  1. Log into Cybertown, the Colony Offices, and check the Neighborhood Application results page once a day. You cannot take care of business if you are not here. You may delegate whatever needs to be done to your staff if you do not have time to complete the work yourself. No one below an NL is to be given the "Application-Results" page as that contains confidential information.

  2. Familiarize yourself with Hi-Tek Colony's website and the information it contains. It will help you decide what duties should be assigned to your own staff and what is already covered by your Command Deputy.

  3. The Hi-Tek Colony was designed to be a Colony with established and set content. While we encourage you to decorate your own houses, MB’s, Inboxes, and Information boxes, you are not to change the content of any public board in Hi-Tek without the prior permission of the CL or his/her delegated appointee. The CL may designate certain times of the year when you may decorate your public boards. When doing so, you are expected to copy the original code in the public board and save it so you can restore it when instructed to do so. We also encourage you to spend time developing interesting posts, Event and Recruitment Ads for the public boards using HTML, Flash and Sound by posting them as new Message Threads/Topics on the public boards, but not in re-configuring the boards themselves!

  4. Hold a monthly meeting with your staff and prepare a summarized statement to present at the monthly Colony Meeting on the state of your Neighborhood.
Temporary suspension due to low staffing and residency. Per order of markjut, CL

  5. You should choose staff to meet the needs of your Neighborhood. This means that you are not required to have a set number of staff. However you should have enough staff that no one is over-taxed. The point of being in Cybertown is to have fun! You should also have someone designated to handle important business if you have to be away. If you are to be away for more than 5 days, please advise your assigned Command Deputy.

  6. Encourage your staff to mark their house with (VAC) or (Away) if they are gone. Staff that does not log in for a period of two weeks with no explanation should be removed from access and the assigned Command Deputy advised.

  7. No house is to be deleted without first receiving direct permission of the CL. You will be requested to provide a list twice a year of the houses you believe can be deleted. The CL will then confirm each house with IVN/Cybertown to ensure they do not have a "reserve" on them prior to any further action.

  8. Remember to post to your Neighborhood and Colony MB regularly and encourage your staff to do the same. Routinely keep your Neighborhood MB’s clear of old and outdated posts.

  9. Please only use your Inbox To All feature for very important issues such as Neighborhood meetings or security concerns. Only Neighborhood Leaders are authorized to use the Inbox To All feature.

  10. On your Neighborhood access rights page, only COM, Com.Ops and Founder boxes are to have check marks in them.

  11. The Colony has an outside Yahoo site for NLs. Please remember to be polite at all times. Try to keep your posts positive and offer solutions, not just complaints. If you have a problem with an individual please address that outside of the Yahoo group via a message to your CD or CL. The same goes for the Colony and Hood MB. As NL you are a leader and expected to be a positive influence on those around you. Please try to follow the threads. If your topic does not fit into a current topic or thread, please start a new one!

  12. You are required to submit a Colony-level Background Check (BGC) on all your staff when you hire them. You may put them into access right away, but please advise them they are being hired on a "probationary basis" until their BGC comes back clear. It is your responsibility to train your staff and ensure they are familiar with all rules, guidelines, and directives of Cybertown and the Hi-Tek Colony.

We hope these guidelines will assist you. Remember these are "standards." Some things, such as Message Board content, house deletions, confidentiality, and access rights are set in stone, others are strongly encouraged. Please remember: You will be accountable at all times for the well-being of your Neighborhood, and should utilize responsible methods and procedures that work best for you, your staff and your residents!

If in doubt, always ask your assigned Command Deputy.
They are there to assist you in any way they can!
